Why Your LinkedIn Posts Get Likes But No Leads (And How to Fix It)

Content works, just not on its own
LinkedIn content is powerful. In the 2024 Edelman–LinkedIn B2B Thought Leadership Impact Report, 73% of decision-makers said thought leadership is a more trustworthy way to judge a company's capabilities than its marketing materials [source link]. The same report found 90% are more receptive to sales outreach from companies that produce strong thought leadership.
Read that last number again: more receptive to outreach. Content doesn't replace outreach. It makes outreach work.
Reason 1: The wrong people see your posts
Likes often come from peers, friends and other founders, not buyers. Without a clear ICP, your content attracts an audience that will never buy from you.
Reason 2: Most buyers aren't shopping right now
Edelman and LinkedIn found that 95% of business buyers aren't actively looking for services at any given moment [source link]. Your ideal client might read your post, nod and forget about it, because nothing prompted them to act.
Reason 3: Your content quality is average
Buyers are drowning in forgettable content. Only 15% of decision-makers rate the thought leadership they read as very good [source link]. Generic motivational posts don't build authority. Specific, data-backed insights do.
Reason 4: There's no bridge from post to conversation
This is the big one. Content builds attention, but attention doesn't book meetings. Something has to turn a passive reader into an active conversation.
The fix: connect content, engagement and outbound
At Growthreo, we treat content as step one of a system, not the whole strategy:
Likes are a start, not a result
If your LinkedIn gets likes but no leads, the problem isn't your content. It's the missing bridge between content and conversation.
